Dirtibike cr125r 2 stroke?

i just bought a 1981 cr125r honda 2 stroke and ths is my first mike so pardon my lack of knowledge but there is no muffler at the end of it it still has the exhaust but at the end it just a small pipe. is this bad, i know running a bike without any exhaust is bad because it needs back presurre, but does the muffler(i think also called silencer) needed?
