Who wanted to be Tom Cruise in "Top Gun", in '86 when he was Maverick?

I joined the Airforce in '86... and no, I aspired to be in air freight logistics... not everyone who joins the Navy, AF or Marines gets a cherry gig like that, unless they want to go to flight school... and believe me, that ain't no picnic !
