Questions about doves as pets...?

I saw what looked like a miniature pigeon in a pet store in with finches. It had orange rings around its eyes, so from what I found online I think it was a diamond dove. Are these the same as turtle doves? I am looking for a kind of pet bird that is pretty low maintenance and these are gorgeous. Would you recommend them as pets? Is it a good idea to keep a pair of females? Are they awfully loud, smelly, or fragile?
